Nine's senior communications executive Adrian Motte (and, arguably, one of the nicest people in the business) has confirmed his departure from the media company after nine years, revealing he is leaving following a redundancy.

Motte announced the news in a LinkedIn post, reflecting on a career at Nine that spanned publicity, corporate communications and commercial storytelling across television, streaming, publishing, audio and sales.

Nine lives

Motte joined Nine in 2017 as Senior Publicist for the Today franchise, initially expecting the role to last just 12 months.

Instead, he went on to work across some of Nine's biggest brands and events, including Love Island Australia, Stan and the network's coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, before moving into corporate communications. Most recently, he supported Nine's commercial, trade marketing and sales teams while also overseeing communications for publishing brands including The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Australian Financial Review and nine.com.au.

Announcing his departure, Motte said:

"And that's a wrap! After nine years at Nine, now is the perfect time to take a plunge and embark on a new adventure.

"Being handed a redundancy is a wonderful opportunity to reset, recharge and tackle what comes next with gusto.

"What started (in my mind) as a year long gig in 2017 looking after publicity for the Today show has seen me traverse every aspect of the business from streaming and broadcast publicity on the Todays & Love Island among others, to being part of Nine's Paris 2024 Olympic team. To then find a home in the Corp Comms team working across publishing mastheads, digital assets, audio and finally Nine's amazing commercial, trade marketing and sales team has been a privalege.

"It's been a wonderfully relentless, satisfying and at times, completely and utterly bonkers, experience in an industry that's changing ever so fast and I will dearly miss working in the trenches with colleagues and the many journos I've dealt with over the years.

"Can't wait for the next chapter, but for now, school pick ups, a phone free vacay and some R&R is in order before hitting up my network!"

Before joining Nine, he spent more than seven years at FremantleMedia Australia, working across major television franchises including MasterChef Australia, The X Factor, Australia's Got Talent, Farmer Wants A Wife, Celebrity Apprentice and Family Feud. Earlier in his career, he also held roles at Pacific Magazines, News Corp, The Sun in the UK, FAMOUS magazine and New Idea.
